FET-Open proposal led by Luís Carlos was financed

From the 395 applications submitted to the last call of the FET-Open Research and Innovation Actions call, 27 were selected for funding. One of the selected consortia (NanoTBTech) is led by the CICECO / Department of Physics researcher Luís D. Carlos.

The goal of NanoTBTech is to develop a 2-D thermal bioimaging technology featuring submicroscale resolution, based on nanothermometers and heater-thermometer nanostructures. The project comprises the design, synthesis, and bio-functionalization of nontoxic luminescent nanostructures, operating essentially beyond 1000 nm, for in vivo nanothermometry and nanoheating. Furthermore, to monitor the temperature-dependent nanostructures’ luminescence a novel imaging system will be developed. The effective delivery of that major advance in 2-D thermal bioimaging will be implemented through two impactful biomedical showcases: highly spatially-modulated intracellular magnetic/optical hyperthermia and in vivo detection and tracking of cancer.

NanoTBTech’s partners are: Fundacion para la Investigacion Biomedica del Hospital Universitario Ramon Y Cajal (Madrid) and CSIC (Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Aragón, University of Zaragoza), Spain, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (Paris), France, INSTITUT ZA NUKLEARNE NAUKE VINCA (Belgrade), Serbia, Trzebiatowski Institute of Low Temperature and Structural Research, Polish Academy of Sciences (Wrocław), Poland, Universiteit Utrecht, Netherlands and two companies, NANOIMMUNOTECH S, Spain, and BIOSPACE LAB, France.
