Delignification by oxygen in the presence of polyoxometalates: Mechanism proposal and possible applications

abstract

In the last years a great attention was devoted to new high selective catalytic techniques of lignin oxidation for pulping and bleaching processes. Polyxometalates having the property of reversible oxidation were concluded to be suitable catalysts for these purposes. In the present paper the mechanism for oxygen delignification catalyzed by molybdovanadophosphate heteropolyanions is proposed The possible applications of polyoxometalates as lignin oxidation promoters are discussed.
