Effect of polyphenolic extractives on the quantification and structural characterization of the lignin of Eucalyptus globulus

abstract

The influence of the alkaline pre-extraction of E. globulus wood for the elimination of polyphenolics, in the Klason Lignin quantification and in the structural features of the isolated dioxane Lignin is discussed It is concluded that, nevertheless fast-grown eucalyptus wood contain much lower quantity of poliphenolics extractives than mature eucalyptus woods, they should be taken into account in lignin quantitative analysis and in structural studies of isolated lignin preparations.
