This Friday, January 24th, CICECO was hosted by CiQUS – The Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials. The aim was to hold a scientific meeting with researchers from both centers.
This event underscores CICECO's commitment to strengthening international alliances with leading research institutions, fostering collaboration in both scientific research and training.
João Coutinho, director of CICECO, emphasizes that "internationalization at CICECO is essential to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge, expand international collaboration networks, and increase the impact of the results generated at CICECO. Collaboration with other international research centers provides access to resources, knowledge, and technologies that complement our own, enriching the quality of the results produced."
The event is coordinated by CiQUS researcher Manuel Souto and Manuel Melle-Franco from CICECO. Manuel Souto is a visiting professor at CICECO's Department of Chemistry and a principal investigator at CiQUS. His research focuses on molecular electronics, electroactive polymers, and organic batteries. Manuel Melle-Franco is a principal researcher at CICECO, leading the Advanced Modelling Lab, a multidisciplinary group addressing key challenges in areas including chemistry, physics, molecular biology, and materials science.
This meeting, titled Exploring Synergies, features presentations from researchers at both institutions, who are sharing progress on topics such as synthetic chemistry in biological environments, porous materials, and nanomedicine. Additionally, discussions will cover funding opportunities for collaborative projects and researcher mobility.
João Coutinho highlights that "as for the meeting between CiQUS and CICECO, it is expected to lead to closer collaboration between the two institutions, the exchange of researchers and students, and the development of joint research projects. In this workshop, we aim to identify areas of common research interest and explore potential synergies that could result in collaborative research projects."
CICECO's multidisciplinary approach aligns with several CiQUS research lines, including supramolecular chemistry, biomaterials, and nanotechnology, paving the way for future synergies between the two centers.
Several CICECO researchers participated in this event: João Mano, Mara Freire, Luís Carlos, Filipe Figueiredo, Luís Mafra, and Manuel Melle-Franco.
