In this project a centrifugal induction casting technique will be used in order to produce aluminium-based FGMMCs, with controlled distribution of ceramic particles. The main aims of the project are the following: - To study and model the influence of the processing conditions and of the composition ofthe aluminium alloy and ceramic reinforcements used on the structural, chemical and mechanical characteristics of the material. -To compare the structural and mechanical characteristics of the FGMMCs with those of MMCs obtained by conventional powder metallurgy (P/M) techniques. -To study the wear mechanisms as a function of superficial volume fraction of reinforcement and of its distribution, with particular emphasis on the influence of the metal matrix/ceramic reinforcement interface on the mechanical behaviour of the materials. |
